Wedneday of Holy Week is sometimes referred to as 'Spy Wednesday' because this is the day on which Judas made his deal to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
Judas snuck away from the group and made a deal with the Jewish leaders. When they turned up to arrest Jesus, Judas would kiss Jesus, indicating which one he was and showing them who to arrest.
The next day Judas made good on his deal. In the Garden of Gethsemane, he betrayed Christ with the kiss. Jesus was arrested, and the rest is history.
Maybe Spy Wednesday is a good time for us to examine our consciences and our lives and to ask ourselves is we have betrayed anything - or anybody - lately. After all, if Holy Week doesn't change us for the better, then we might as well give is all a miss!
 Pray
Loving Father,
Your Son was betrayed into the hands of evil men for a price so small. He knew what was coming, but even so, he let it happen because it was his destiny to die for us.
Help us to use this Holy Week to follow the example of our loving Lord, and not the example of those around him who couldn't always be faithful.
Help us to look at ourselves honestly and to have the courage to heal and wounds.
Amen.
 Challenge
Your challenge today is probably fairly obvious.
Take a few minutes to think quietly by yourself.
Ask yourself if you have betrayed anything or anybody you care about lately.
If you have, ask yourself what you can do to put it right.
Good luck!
