March 24th is the anniversary of the death of Archbishop Oscar Romero.

Oscar Romero was an Archbishop in El Salvador at a time when the government were oppresing the people and killing thousands of those who they didn't like.
Oscar Romero stood up to the government and preached powerful messages, telling soldiers that the killing was wrong and that justice and love would be a much better way forward.
On March 24th 1980, while he was saying Mass in a hospital Chapel, Oscar Romero was shot and killed by men linked to the government.
Nobody was ever brought to justice.
Today, Oscar Romero is remembered by millions as a champion of the poor and the oppressed.
 Pray
Loving Father,
On this day, we pray for all those who are oppressed and whose rights aren't respected, and we thank you for people like Oscar Romero who stand up for justice.
Help us to bring about a world where rights are respected and where the value of life is held to be precious.
Help us too to be people who are never afraid to speak the truth.
Amen.
