Today at Mass we hear a line from the first Psalm:
'Happy the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.'
It's true. When we put our trust in God it does make us happier. After all, why wouldn't it. If we believe that somebody is in control of things and that there is a reason behind what happens, it's far easier to approach our lives in a happy and positive way.
The problem with trusting in God though, is that sometimes we just can't let go. We think that we know best. We just have to solve every problem that comes along by ourselves. Our egos get to big and we leave no room for God.
Trusting in God isn't about switching off our brains or stepping back from decision making. God doesn't turn off who we are. Instead, God perfects who we are.
Trusting in God is about remembering that, even when things get bad, there is a reason behind it and a loving hand guiding it. Trusting in God is about believing in the value of doing the right thing, even when something else is more satisfying or simple.
 Pray
Loving Father,
Happy are we when we place our trust in you, because you have made us lovingly and you take such a great interest in every moment of our lives.
Help us to live lives that have you at their centre. Let us remember always to bring you into the decisions we make, and to never forget your presence at our side.
Amen.
 Challenge
Your challenge today is to find a bible and read Psalm 1.
If you can't find a bible, there are plenty on the web.
