In today's Mass we hear a really interesting verse in the Psalm. It comes from Psalm 78, and says:
'Do not treat us according to our sins, O Lord.'
A lot of people worry about the things they have done wrong in the past. In a way this is a good thing. After all, we are called to change and become better, and we have all sinned. Lent is a great time to do this.
But this short plea reminds us that God is loving and that he doesn't hold things against us.
If we are truly sorry for the things we have done wrong, then God's forgiveness is guaranteed. In the Catholic Church we have the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession!) - a place where this love and forgiveness can be felt very strongly.
Maybe we can use Lent to examine ourselves and to ask for God's forgiveness for the things we have done wrong lately.
 Pray
Loving Father,
We know that your love and goodness is the more powerful thing in existence. Help us to recognise those times that we have fallen short of doing the right thing and help us to have the grace to turn to you for forgiveness.
Amen.
 Challenge
Your challenge for today is to go to confession.
Don't worry, this may well be something that you can't do today. In fact, it probably is. But the next time you get the chance, go to confession and remind yourself how much God loves you.
If you haven't been to confession for a while, don't worry. Tell the priest that you haven't been for a while and he will be happy to help you through it.
