Footsteps through Lent...

[Second Sunday of Lent | Sunday Feb 28th]

Reflect

Today is the Second Sunday of Lent.

In today's Mass we hear a verse from Psalm 26:

'The Lord is my light and my help'

This is an interesting way of looking at it. God is both light and help. Help is something that's there for us when we struggle, and light is something which takes what is hidden and lets us see it clearly.

God does both of these things for us in so many ways. He stands by us and looks after us when things get difficult and he gives meaning to things which otherwise seem confusing and lifeless.

The world around us asks itself so many questions that it just can't answer: why are we here? What's the point of our lives? By loving us and by revealing himself to us, God answers these questions. He doesn't give us all of the answers in fine detail, but he sets us on the right path.

Pray

Loving Father, you are our light and our help. From the dawn of creation right through to the present day, you have stood beside your people and never let them down. Even when we sondered away from you, your loving hand still guided us and your gentle voice still called us back.

Help us to remember that you are with us, and help us to use this Lent to get to know you more and more.

Amen.

Challenge

One of the best ways we can see God's light is by trying to get to know him and by learning about him. There are a lot of ways to do this, but one of the best is by reading the bible.

Your challenge today is to pick up a bible and read a little bit of it. Maybe a chapter. Why not start with the first letter of John (1 John). It you can't find a bible at home, there are plenty on the internet.

Good luck
