Footsteps through Lent...

[Wednesday Feb 24th]

Reflect

'A humbled, contrite heart, O God, you will not spurn'

This phrase is taken from Psalm 50 and appears in the readings at today's Mass, like many of the readings we use in this series.

The idea of humility is an important one in life and it's especially important during Lent.

Humiity doesn't mean being sad, or quiet, or bored or anything negative, but rather it's about recognising something more important than ourselves. That thing may be God, or the Church, or the community around us, or it may be the needs of another person.

Being humble is important. It's important because if nobody was humble then people would drive each other mad. But humility is also important because it invites us to stop, and to be aware of the beauty of what's going on around us.

Pray

Loving Father,

Give me the humility to turn to you in prayer.

Give me the humility to put others before myself.

Give me the humility to see beauty and goodness in the things around me.

Give me the humility to use this Lent to get closer to you.

Amen.

Challenge

Your task for today is to tell somebody else something good about themselves.

Tell them something positive about them that you really admire.

You're not doing this for a reward or to get a compliment in return, but simply because it's important to recignise good things around you.
