Today in the Catholic Church is the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter.
On this day we remember the special authority that St. Peter was given to lead the Church.
Peter was a fisherman who was called by Jesus and who became one of his most trusted followers. He was a man from a humble background and the Gospel stories show that he made his fair share of mistakes along the way.
Despite the occasional error though, and despite his humble beginings, Jesus chose Peter to become the first Pope and to look after his Church for him.
The story of Peter goes to show that nobody is perfect and that, even imperfect as we are - we can still do a great deal because God believes in us!
Funnily enough, Lent shows us exactly the same thing...
The fact that we make mistakes doesn't mean that God no longer has a plan for us. That's why we use this time to make sure that we learn from them!
 Pray
Loving Father,
You create us in love and you stick by us even when we make mistakes.
Help us to follow the example of Peter in being faithful to what you ask of us.
Help us to realise that it is when we are weakest that you are strongest.
Amen.
 Challenge
Your task for today is to sit and think...
Have a think about the things that you do well... What are you really good at?
Once you have done that, thank God for the talents you have been given and ask him to help you put them to good use.
